Description
The Asscher cut diamond is very similar to the emerald cut, but with a square shape, instead of rectangular. First introduced in the early 1900's, the Asscher cut diamond is often seen in vintage jewellery and is prized for its antique appearance. • It is a square step-cut diamond with cropped (bevelled) corners and concentric square facets that create a deep, layered optical illusion. • Key Characteristics: • The "Hall of Mirrors": The parallel step-cut facets act like stacked mirrors that pull the eye straight toward the centre of the stone. • The Windmill Effect: The corner facets converge toward the centre, forming a distinct X-shaped or propeller-like pattern reminiscent of a windmill blades. • Art Deco Style: Created in 1902 by the Asscher Brothers in Amsterdam, the cut reached peak popularity during the 1920s Art Deco movement. • Square Emerald Cut: It is often described as a square version of an emerald cut, though it features larger, wider step facets and a higher crown. • This natural diamond has been certified.
